In addition to story submissions, we are now accepting submissions of original cover artwork for Into the Ruins. We are searching for compelling pieces of art and photographs that evoke deindustrial, post-industrial, post-peak, and ecological themes—though we’re pretty flexible and really just want something that will catch our eye and we think would make a great cover. That said, please read our main submissions page and Philosophy page for guidance on the themes and perspective of Into the Ruins.
Artwork selected for the cover may be altered by adding the journal title, edition, and issue information, though we will make every effort to work with the artist while designing the final cover. The cover is full color and publication dimension is 7″ x 10″, though we can work with different ratio art. That said, portrait is far preferable to landscape.
We currently pay a fee of $10 for cover artwork and a free copy of the issue your work is used for, mailed anywhere in the U.S. (international shipment negotiable). Artists will be provided a short bio within the issue, the same as authors, which may include website and/or email information for readers to learn more. We will accept previously published pieces. We ask only for non-exclusive, one-time print and digital publication rights.
To submit your artwork, email as a high quality attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org along with your name and contact information. Please place “Artwork Submission” in the subject of your email, as well as the title of your piece, if there is one.
If you have any questions, please inquire by email. Thank you!
